Might makes right.

Despite the logical prowess of the Austrian School, anarcho-capitalism and libertarianism theory in general, that statement is true.

With eyes wide open, I layed motionless in my bed. The gentle, pulsing glow from my computer provided the only source of light. “Annihilation” by A Perfect Circle played repeatedly.

The power of any social system lies in its mindshare. The flavor of the day, whether freedom or slavery, is subject to the power of might. If I kill you before you kill me, I am in a position of being correct by default; there is no longer a dissenting opinion.

If you disagree with me, I will kill you, too.

Then pen is mightier than the sword.

Given this fundamental understanding, I have a decision to make. To give up my efforts, or persevere.

I choose to persevere. To continue. To spread the ideas. To teach those willing to listen.

Adding rational expressions.

I am adding rational expressions, so I want to find a common denominator.
Common denominator found, I want to multiple every rational expression by the LCD. Additionally, each rational expression should be re-written with its denominator in simplified/factored form so I can cancel out terms.
I should have no more fractions. Now I want to combine like terms and generally solve as I would a linear equation. However, in the event this is a quadratic equation, or an equation to the power of 2, I want to mold the equation into a trinomial of standard form. Once done I will factor the trinomial into a pair of binomials. Once done I will take each binomial and set its value equal to zero. This is known as the multiplication property of zero. Doing this for both binomials should yield two answers for X. Check them.

It’s sad when common sense is eaten alive by fear and a cover-your-ass attitude.

I’m glad I was given the opportunity to see it firsthand, but I’m disheartened that it was there to see in the first place.

An entity claiming responsibility for all happenings that lacks the resources, expertise or motivation to actually act responsibly is not an entity that should exist. Doing otherwise sounds like a narcissistic god delusion to me. Proponents of god, like those of big government, claim their benevolent dictator can do more that it can.

The government (state-level government, I’m assuming here) dipped its creeping fingers into something it didn’t understand, or, more likely, didn’t care to understand. The result is a free iPhone, some nice code, decent designs and another nail in the coffin of the “land of the free and the home of the brave”.

Free indeed.

Production-grade code versus getting it out there.

I’m constantly at war with myself and other forces to “get the simplest thing that can work” up and running quickly and at the same time not writing absolutely shitty code that has to be massaged a week later.

Actually, it’s not the massaging that I mind — I like refactoring code. What bothers me is it never feels like there’s enough time or emphasis given to creating time to go back and refactor. It’s always about moving forward and making it work, regardless of the quality of work being done. So long as it looks good on the outside.

It feels like the only real option I have is to “slow down.” I think this coming week I’ll do that. Slow down, but remain steady. Slow and steady.
