In praise of DigiCert.

by Rabbit

This is a summary of my personal experiences with DigiCert, a provider of SSL security certificates. I’m not being paid to write this, nor was I asked to. I am writing this because every one of us is always in the market for low prices and good quality. I have found such a thing and I want to share it with others.

If you are in the market for an SSL security certificate, look no further than DigiCert. They are awesome. I’ve purchased with them on 3 occasions. Twice in a professional setting (wherein my employer paid the bill) and once for personal use (wherein I paid the bill). Each time I have been more and more impressed.

Each purchase was separated by about 1 year. I consider having had excellent experiences three times in a row over the course of 3 years is highly convincing anecdotal evidence that this company is in it for real. They’re a true capitalist ship — striving ever harder to provide excellent service at the lowest possible cost. In short, I love this company. Why? Because they want to work with me. When I pay them, they act like they appreciate it, and that is priceless.

A note on the technical side of things…

I’m a fairly “technical” person. I’m comfortable with a terminal, I build web applications and I’m currently studying math. But I hate server-side tasks. I am constantly referring to my own notes, a long list of websites and Google whenever I’m doing something on a server. I have a mild interest in getting better with regard to server tasks (specifically setting up a web server), but not enough to actually DO IT. So I flounder like a fish out of water whenever I approach some server-oriented task.

Despite that, with the help of DigiCert’s website and live help, I was able to get the job done. In fact, I’d like to take a moment here to say that the first time I bought with DigiCert about 3 years ago, was also the first time I had ever tried to install a security certificate. I had no idea what I was doing. The install took me about 3 hours from start to finish. However, for the entire 3 hours, I had 1 person with me on live chat. He answered my questions patiently and competently throughout the install. I was floored. Was this happening? Was I actually getting 1:1 support, even though I wasn’t a huge corporate customer. Yes, I was.

If you’re thinking about a security certificate and you’re not a sys-admin god, you can do no better than putting your money with DigiCert.
